Assessment Tools

We perform the assessment with the help of the following standard tools like

1. Bayley Scales of Infant Development (BSIDII)

We use the current version of BSIDII to assess the development of infants & toddlers from the age of 1 month to 42 months. It consists ofa series of developmental play tasks that might take around 45-60 minutes. This will help determining the toddler’s DQ (Developmental Quotient) and IQ (Intelligence Quotient). It also includes subtests like

• Cognitive Scale:attention to familiar & unfamiliar objects, pretend play etc.

• Language Scale: understanding & expression of language

• Motor Scale: assess both gross & fine motor skills.

2. Seguin Form Board (SFB)

This assessment tool is used to assess children between the ages of 3 & 15 years. This tool is primary used to assess a child’s visual-motor skills. It is used to evaluate a child’s cognitive ability, eye-hand coordination, shape concept & visual perception.

3. Vineland Social Maturity Scale (VSMS)

This is a psychometric assessment tool that will assess a child’s social competence. This tool consists of a questionnaire and consists of 8 sub-tests:

* Communication Skills

* General Self-Help Ability

* Locomotion Skills

* Occupation Skills

* Self-Direction

* Self-Help Eating

* Self-Help Dressing

* Socialization Skills

4. Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC)

This is an individual assessment of children between the age of 6 & 16 years. It usually takes an hour to complete. This tool helps in generating a Full Scale IQ, representing a child’s general intellectual ability. It derives 5 ancillary composite scores from the different combinations of the following 5 sub-tests:

* Verbal Comprehension Index

* Visual Spatial Index

* Working Memory Index

* Fluid Reasoning Index

* Processing Speed Index

5. Malin Intelligence Scale for Indian Children (MISIC)

This assessment tool is an adaptation of the WISC tool, used for children between the ages of 6 & 15 years. This tool helps derive an IQ score for each age group. It has 11 sub-sets, out of which 6 form the verbal scale while 5 form the performance scale.
